⁸C has been observed in the ¹²C(α, ⁸He)⁸C reaction at E_α = 156 MeV: M - A = 35.30 ± 0.20 MeV, Γ_c.m. = 220⁺⁸⁰_-140 keV [the differential cross section at 2° (lab) is ≈ 20 nb/sr] (R.G.H. Robertson, S. Martin, W.R. Falk, D. Ingham and A. Djaloeis, private communication). ⁸C is then unstable with respect to ⁷B + p (Q = 0.1), ⁶Be + 2p (Q = 2.3), ⁵Li + 3p (Q = 1.8), ⁴He + 4p (Q = 3.7).
