Mass of ⁸C:The atomic mass excess of ⁸C is 35095 ± 24 keV (1985WA02); α_c.m. = 230 ± 50 keV: see (1979AJ01). ⁸C is stable with respect to ⁷B + p (Q = -0.13 MeV) and unstable with respect to ⁶Be + 2p (Q = 21.4), ⁵Li + 3p (Q = 1.55), ⁴He + 4p (Q = 3.51). At E(³He) = 76 MeV the differential cross section for formation of ⁸C_g.s. in the ¹⁴N(³He, ⁹Li) reaction is ≈ 5 nb/sr at θ_lab = 10°. The ¹²C(α, ⁸He)⁸C reaction has been studied at E_α = 156 MeV: dσ/dΩ ≈ 20 nb/sr at θ_lab = 20°: see (1979AJ01). See also (1985AN28) and (1983ANZQ, 1986HE26, 1987BL18, 1987SA15; theor.).
