17C (1982AJ01)

(See the Isobar Diagram for 17C)

The Q-value of the 48Ca(18O, 17C)49Ti reaction, studied at E(18O) = 102 MeV, θ ≈ 8°, leads to an atomic mass excess of 21.023 ± 35 keV. A group is also observed corresponding to an excited state of 17C with Ex = 292 ± 20 keV. Three closely spaced states with Jπ = 1/2+, 3/2+, 5/2+ are predicted, based on systematics. The cross sections for formation of 17C*(0, 0.29) are 3 and 9 μb/sr, respectively, at θcm = 10.5° (1977NO08). On the basis of the atomic mass excess given above, Eβ-(max) to 17Ng.s. = 13.15 MeV. 17C is stable with respect to 16C + n by 0.74 MeV. The Q-value of the 207Pb(18O, 17C)208Po reaction is -26.87 ± 0.22 MeV, leading to a mass excess of 21.10 ± 0.22 MeV for the ground state (doublet) of 17C (1979BA31). See also (1977AJ02) and (1977AR06, 1980AL1F).
