16Ne (1971AJ02)

(See the Isobar Diagram for 16Ne)

16Ne has not been observed. The isobaric multiplet mass equation predicts M - A = 25.15 ± 0.6 MeV (1968CE01: 16Ne is then unbound with respect to breakup into 14O + 2p by 2.6 MeV. See also (1960GO1B, 1960GO1D, 1961BA1C, 1961GO1D, 1962GO28, 1962GO31, 1964GA1C, 1965JA1C, 1966KE16). A search has been made for the two-proton decay of 16Ne in the bombardment of nickel by 150 MeV 20Ne ions: the cross section is either ≤ 1.8 μb (if Epp > 1 MeV and τ(16Ne) ≥ 10-8 sec), or else τ(16Ne) < 10-8 sec (1964KA28). See also (1965GO1D, 1966GO1B, 1966LE1H, 1970WA1G).
