12N (1959AJ76)

(See the Energy Level Diagram for 12N)

GENERAL: See also Table 12.12 [Table of Energy Levels] (in PDF or PS).

Mass of 12N: From the Q of the 10B(3He, n)12N reaction, 1.46 ± 0.06 MeV, and the Wapstra (1955WA1A) atomic masses for 10B, 3He and n, the mass excess of 12N is 21.00 ± 0.06 MeV.

1. 12N(β+)12C Qm = 17.46

The half life is 12.5 ± 1 msec; Eβ(max) = 16.6 ± 0.2 MeV (1949AL05), τ1/2 = 11.43 ± 0.05 msec; Eβ(max) = 16.37 ± 0.06 MeV (1958VE20). The decay is complex; 12N decays to the ground state of 12C and to 12C*(4.4, 7.6): see 12C. Log ft = 4.17 for the ground state transition (1958VE20). See also (1959SC1B; theor.).

2. 10B(3He, n)12N Qm = 1.46
Q0 = 1.46 ± 0.06 (1957AJ71).

The neutron spectrum has been studied at E(3He) = 2.54 and 3.60 MeV. Seven neutron groups are observed, corresponding to the ground state and to excited states at 1.06 ± 0.08, 1.56 ± 0.08, (1.97 ± 0.10), 2.35 ± 0.08, 3.18 ± 0.15 and 3.46 ± 0.15 MeV, in good agreement with the levels of the mirror nucleus, 12B. At the lower energy, the (c.m.) angular distribution of the ground state neutrons is isotropic within ≈ 15% statistics; at the higher energy, the distribution is peaked forward (1957AJ71).

3. 12C(p, n)12N Qm = -18.24

Ethresh = 20.0 ± 0.1 MeV (1949AL05). See also (1957CA1E, 1957GR1F) and 13N.

4. 12C(3He, t)12N Qm = -17.48

Not reported.

5. 14N(γ, 2n)12N Qm = -30.73

See 14N.

6. 14N(p, t)12N Qm = -22.25

Not reported.
